OUT FEAR. TAP IN.
AN INSTALLATION ON BEATING FEAR TO THE PUNCH
Friday the 13th of December 6-9pm 2013
First Street Green
33 East 1st Street in Manhattan
A bold and unique public art installation asks observers to beat fear to the punch in a larger-than-life exposé on some of the group's biggest fears.
Our ancestors' fears protected them, triggering the life-saving reaction of flight or fight. Today this primal instinct remains in us and though it still protects us, fear can also hold us back.
We believe that in exposing our fears, we take the first step in facing them before they get the best of us. By outing fear in this public display, the TAPIN Crew aims to achieve its broader mission of exposing life's range of emotions to tap into their power. See how the TAPIN crew and participants resisted the urge to ignore or fight fear and instead warmed up to it, named it and exposed their biggest fears in a larger-than-life video installation. Watch the video installation and check out the photos from the event. And if you are really brave, out your biggest fear with us @wetapin #outfear.
One of the participants said of their experience:
"I never could have imagined being so moved and connected to strangers around our fears. Seeing everyone write their fears on the canvas, below the huge video projection of people sharing theirs, and noticing that we all shared many of the same fears, was such a deeply moving and empowering experience. I can't wait for the next event!"
